Upanayanam is performed at the age of 7 at that time the child is ready for schooling, at that time parents conduct this ceremony and send their child to Veda Patashala. Wearing Sacred thread on Upanayanam occasion is also called as Brahma Upadesham and preparing his child to enter the Gurukula. In Upanayanam you will know about the Gayatri Mantra from your 1 st Guru i.e., is Your father. It is chanted at least twice a day.

The devotees who perform the Upanayanam for his child, wake up early in the morning and clean the house and take the bath before “Suryodayam”. In olden days Brahmins, Kshatriya’s, Vishay’s would wear the sacred thread it indicates their household status. Udaka Shanti, Rakshogana Suktams, Rashtrabhrtam, Ashirvad, Prokshana Mantras are chanted. The ancestral blessings to the boy will given by Asrumukha Pitru, Naandi Mukha Pitru.
