Makar Sankranti is a harvest festival celebrated all over India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. On this day sun enters into the sign of Capricorn Or Makara (Indian Zodiac Sign), the word Sankranthi describes the movement of sun it enters from one zodiac sign to other.

Makara Sankranthi festival is the harvesting one to gain the Lord Surya blessing to prosperity of the land. Basavanna is the most common sight everywhere on this festival , carrying with a bull he plays folk tunes along with clarinet(Sannai) while the bull dances with his tunes by nodding his head. He accepts olden clothes for placing it on the bull and few coins by praising and blessings the family members, on this day baayna is created and place before the Lord Surya, for baayna in one thaali where you place two gehvars, 4 white & black Til Ladoo’s and some money are placed.

On this day people clean their houses and throw out the garbage and other waste materials, those who perform this pooja should be done oil bath, the house is decorated with mango leaves, flowers, and rangoli is placed in front of the house and there are various organization conduct the Rangoli competitions and place gobbillu in the middle of the Rangoli applied turmeric, Kumkum, marigold flowers, Sugar cane pieces, Nava Dhanya placed in them.
